Kitchener Paving Reviews: Where to Read Them and What to Check

Kitchener Asphalt Paving Pros has paved driveways, parking lots and laneways across Waterloo Region since 2013, and the owners behind those 2,500+ jobs are the fairest judges of our work. This page points you to where their reviews are posted and explains how to read paving reviews with a critical eye.

We do not republish review quotes on this site. You read them on the platform where they were written, next to every other paver in Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph.

Reviews only tell part of the story, so the rest of this page covers the checks that protect you with any contractor: WSIB clearance, a written contract and Ontario's consumer rules.

Where to Read and Leave Reviews of Our Work

Reviews of Kitchener Asphalt Paving Pros are posted on independent platforms, where we cannot edit or remove them. Search our full business name on either platform below.

Google Search and Google Maps

Search Kitchener Asphalt Paving Pros on Google or Google Maps to see our Business Profile, customer reviews and photos. A Maps search for paving shows our listing beside other Kitchener pavers, so you can compare them on the same screen.

HomeStars

HomeStars is a Canadian review site where homeowners rate contractors by type of job. Search our name there to read or post a review of driveway, sealing or repair work.

Leave a review after your job

The most useful review names the service, your neighbourhood or town, and how the job went from quote to cleanup. An update after the first winter, when freeze-thaw has tested the surface, helps the next homeowner most.

See the work in person

Reviews are no substitute for looking at asphalt. At your site visit, ask for streets near you where we have paved, then check the edges, the seam at the garage and whether water sits anywhere after rain.

What to Look For in Asphalt Paving Reviews

The most useful paving reviews describe how a surface held up after a winter, not how it looked on paving day. Fresh asphalt always looks good, so give older reviews and updates more weight.

Reviews written a year or more later

Freeze-thaw is the real test in Waterloo Region. A review that reports no cracking, sinking or puddles after one or two winters tells you far more than a photo taken the afternoon of the job.

Details about the base and the bill

Look for customers who mention excavation, base depth or drainage, and whether the final bill matched the quote. Ontario rules say a final price can be no more than 10% over the estimate, so big surprises are a warning sign.

How the contractor answers complaints

Every busy paver gets a complaint eventually. What matters is whether the reply is specific, offers an inspection and follows through, or argues and goes quiet.

Patterns that suggest trouble

Be wary of a burst of short reviews in a single week, reviews that only praise a low price, or several mentions of deposits taken and crews that never came back.

When something goes wrong

How We Handle Problems After the Job

If something goes wrong with work we built, call or email with photos and we inspect within 7 days during paving season. Workmanship defects are repaired at no charge under our 1-year labour warranty.

The full list of what the warranty covers and excludes is on our about page with warranty terms and build standards.

  1. Send photos

Email info@kitchenerasphaltpaving.ca or call 548-457-2043 with your address and roughly when the job was done. A wide shot plus a close-up with a coin or tape measure for scale helps us judge the problem before the visit.

  2. On-site inspection

We look at the area in person within 7 days in season. We check for settling, standing water, loose stone or an open seam, and for causes such as a downspout, a heavy vehicle or a spill.

  3. A straight answer

If it is a workmanship defect, we say so and book the repair. If it is an exclusion such as power-steering scuffs on new asphalt, we explain the cause, and those marks usually soften as the surface hardens through its first year.

  4. Repair in the next paving window

Covered repairs are scheduled for the next suitable paving weather, since hot mix needs at least 5 C and a dry, unfrozen base. A defect reported in December is usually repaired after the asphalt plants reopen in spring.

Comparing Paving Quotes Line by Line

Two driveway quotes can differ by thousands of dollars because they describe different jobs. Put them side by side and check that each one answers the same questions in writing.

Line on the quoteWhat a solid quote saysRed flag
AreaMeasured square footage, including the apronA lump sum with no measurements
RemovalOld asphalt removed and hauled to recyclingPaving over the old surface without saying so
BaseDepth of new Granular A, compacted in liftsNo base depth, or "top up as needed"
AsphaltMix type (HL3 or HL8) and compacted thickness"Two to three inches" with no mix named
DrainageSlope direction and any catch basin workNo mention of where water goes
Permits and locatesWho handles the curb cut permit and Ontario One Call locates"You don't need a permit" for a widening
PaymentDeposit of 10% or less, balance on completionLarge cash deposit or full payment up front
WarrantyTerm, coverage and exclusions in writingA verbal promise only

An overlay can be the right call, as our asphalt resurfacing page explains, but the quote should say that is what you are buying. A full driveway removal and replacement quote should list the base depth it rebuilds to.

If you already have another contractor's quote, ask us to price the same spec so the comparison is fair.

Before you sign

How to Vet Any Paving Contractor in Kitchener

Checking a paver takes about 15 minutes and protects you whoever you hire. These six checks come from Ontario's consumer protection rules and the scams the OPP has warned homeowners about.

Check WSIB clearance

Search the company with WSIB's clearance certificate lookup before you sign. A contractor with an active account can produce a current certificate the same day.

Get a written, itemized contract

Ontario requires home renovation contracts over $50 to be in writing. The contract should list the area, base depth, asphalt thickness, mix, drainage plan, start window, payment terms and warranty.

Keep the deposit to 10%

Ontario advises paying no more than 10% up front. We follow that: 10% books your date and the balance is due on completion.

Ask for proof of insurance

A contractor with commercial general liability insurance can send a certificate on request. Condo boards and property managers should ask to be named as additional insured.

Say no to leftover asphalt at the door

Crews that knock claiming leftover asphalt from a nearby job, quote a cash price and want to start today are a known scam. The OPP has warned about door-to-door driveway paving scams, which tend to leave a thin layer on an unprepared base.
