Farm Laneways and Equipment Yards
Our private road and rural laneway paving covers lanes from the road to the barn, yards in front of implement sheds and pads where grain trucks turn. We build them on 150 mm of Granular A over 300 mm of Granular B.

Woolwich Township paving crews
Kitchener Asphalt Paving Pros has paved driveways, farm lanes and business lots in Woolwich Township since 2013. Our crews run north from Kitchener up Regional Road 85 to Elmira and St. Jacobs, and east to Breslau beside the airport.
Woolwich is three kinds of work in one township. Paving in Elmira usually means a village driveway or a yard behind a shop, the farm country around Conestogo, Maryhill and Floradale means long gravel lanes that have outgrown their stone, and Breslau means new homes finishing a builder's driveway.
Across more than 2,500 jobs in Waterloo Region we have learned to settle one question before anything else here: who owns the road at the end of your lane. Every Woolwich quote names that authority, the base depth and the asphalt mix in writing.
What we pave here
Woolwich bookings split across farms, village homes, new subdivisions and the commercial strip around the St. Jacobs market. These are the four jobs we quote most often in the township.
Our private road and rural laneway paving covers lanes from the road to the barn, yards in front of implement sheds and pads where grain trucks turn. We build them on 150 mm of Granular A over 300 mm of Granular B.
Elmira and St. Jacobs homes usually need a peel and pave, while Breslau homes need a builder base checked and finished. Both get our asphalt driveway paving standard of 60 mm of compacted HL3.
Shops near the St. Jacobs market and industrial yards in Elmira hire us for parking lot paving on an HL8 binder and HL3 surface. Work is phased around trading days so the lot stays open.
Open cracks on a long farm lane let meltwater into the base every March. Our hot-pour crack filling and sealing closes them in spring or fall and the lane is drivable within an hour.
Woolwich communities
We pave in every Woolwich community, from the two market villages to hamlets of a few dozen homes. Here is what the work usually looks like in each.
The township's largest community has older village streets, newer subdivisions on the edges and industrial lots. Arthur Street through town is a Regional road, so entrances there go to the Region, not the Township.
Historic main street homes on tight lots, plus retail and market parking off Weber Street North. Commercial work here is booked around market days.
The fastest-growing settlement in the township, close to the Region of Waterloo International Airport. Most calls are first driveways on new homes.
Country lots near the Grand and Conestogo rivers, often on Regional roads such as Sawmill Road and Maryhill Road. Lots near the water can sit in Grand River Conservation Authority regulated areas.
Farm country with long lanes and roads shared with horse-drawn buggies. West Montrose is home to Ontario's last covered bridge, built for buggy and light traffic over the Grand River.
Farm lanes
A Woolwich farm lane needs a base built for the heaviest thing that drives on it, which is usually a loaded grain truck or a tractor with a full wagon. We size the granular base to that load first, then choose the surface.
Hot mix on a lane runs $4.50 to $7.50 per sq ft depending on base work. Recycled asphalt millings (RAP), graded and rolled rather than hot-laid, cost $1.50 to $3.00 per sq ft and suit lanes where dust control matters more than a smooth finish.

New homes
A new Breslau driveway is usually best paved one to two years after the house is finished, once trench backfill and the lot grade have settled. Breslau has grown from a hamlet into a subdivision community, with more phases planned around Victoria Street North, so we see the same builder-grade questions every season.
Builder gravel is often thinner than our 150 to 200 mm Granular A standard. We probe it at the site visit, top it up where it is short and compact it before any asphalt goes down.
Water and sewer trenches run under the front of most new lots. If paving goes on too soon, those strips sink and the driveway dips at the sidewalk, so we look for soft spots first.
New lots are graded to drain, but garage slabs and sod often shift that grade slightly. We set at least a 2% fall away from the garage before paving.
A wider driveway apron or a new curb cut needs Township approval first. Curb cuts are noted on the Township entrance application, and we prepare that sketch with you.
Commercial
Commercial paving near St. Jacobs is scheduled around the market, not the other way round. The St. Jacobs Farmers' Market trades every Thursday and Saturday all year and adds Tuesdays in summer, and those days fill every lot nearby.
We pave and patch on the quiet weekdays in between, one section at a time. A typical plaza or market-area lot takes 2 to 5 days, phased so entrances and accessible stalls stay usable.

Drive time
Woolwich is 20 to 25 minutes from our Kitchener shop, well inside our standard service area. Breslau is the shortest run along Victoria Street, and Elmira is the longest, up Regional Road 85.
That distance lets us deliver hot mix at full temperature to farm lanes north of Elmira as easily as to Breslau. Site visits are booked within 2 to 3 business days, and we try to group nearby Woolwich jobs onto the same paving days.
FAQ
These are the questions Woolwich homeowners, farmers and business owners ask us most on site visits.
Yes. We pave farm lanes in hot mix on an HL8 and HL3 build, or in compacted recycled millings for a lower cost, sized for tractors and grain trucks. Our laneway paving service covers turnarounds and yard pads too.
It depends on the road. Township streets need a Township of Woolwich entrance permit, while Regional roads such as Arthur Street need a Region of Waterloo access permit.
Not an entrance permit, but the Township asks for a Road Work Permit when the driveway is repaved in the same footprint. We include it in the job timeline.
It can, but waiting a year or two usually gives a better driveway. Backfill over the service trenches keeps settling after move-in, so we probe the base before quoting and tell you honestly if it needs another season.
Yes. We phase the work into sections and pave on the days the market is closed, so your entrance stays open on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Send us your Woolwich address and whether it is a lane, a driveway or a lot, and we will book a site visit within 2 to 3 business days. We answer the phone 7 days a week, which matters on a farm where the only free time is Sunday.
