Older Homes Near Downtown Acton and Fairy Lake
Acton's oldest streets grew up around the tannery and the railway, so lots near Mill Street and Main Street are narrow and driveways are often single width. Later subdivisions arrived in waves as the town boundary grew in 1949, 1955 and 1968.
Tannery-era streets downtown
Narrow lots near Mill Street, River Street and Main Street leave little room to stage trucks, so these jobs lean on a small roller, a plate compactor and hand raking along walls and steps. Many of these driveways carry several old patches and overlays that need full removal, not another layer.
Glenlea, Lakeview and the postwar subdivisions
Glenlea and Lakeview were built on farmland annexed in 1955, ahead of the large influx of new residents in the 1960s. Driveways of that age have usually been replaced at least once, and a one-day peel and pave is the common job.
Around Fairy Lake and Prospect Park
Homes near Fairy Lake and the Black Creek valley can back onto land regulated by Credit Valley Conservation. Widening or regrading a driveway on those lots may need a conservation permit before we start.
